What is a brow reset or brow contouring?
With age, the position of the eyebrows can change. Often it is not the entire eyebrow that sags, but rather the lateral (outer) part. This, combined with loss of volume under the eyebrow, can cause a tired and aged appearance. Moreover, this may even affect vision by causing the eyebrows to sag and the eyelids to overhang.
Although the eyebrow may still appear to be at the correct height, wrinkles and creases on the sides of the eyes or in the forehead may indicate that the brow is ptotic. Epilation of the lower part of the eyebrow and tattooing of the upper part of the eyebrow sometimes also reveals a ptotic position of the brow tissues. This is an often overlooked indication for an eyebrow reset or recontouring.
When drooping eyebrows create pressure on the upper eyelids, the body raises the brows to compensate. This exacerbates the wrinkles on the forehead. A brow reset or recontouring can not only improve aesthetics but also address functional issues. Often the goal of this procedure is to elevate the brow to the position where the patient preoperatively holds the brow up.
The result is a subtle lift with a brightened, rejuvenated appearance and better vision, albeit with a relaxed forehead muscle and fewer wrinkles.
